Request quote View all products Why the material is different Heat treated at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes. Not HPP. Most organ and glandular powder in the supplement trade is high-pressure pasteurized, usually on FDA pet-downgraded material. We raise the temperature gently instead: a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, higher where the program calls for it. It comes out looking almost rare. Human-grade raw material, never pet-downgraded, under USDA or FDA inspection No chemical bath, no irradiation, no high-pressure step Freeze-dried, then milled in-house to your density and mesh spec Certificate of analysis, lab results, and a specification sheet with every order Quality and sourcing Runs clean on your line Two mills and a milling scientist, in-house. Most freeze dryers have no milling capability at all. They ship dried material out to a separate co-packer, which is exactly where lot-to-lot drift comes from. We run a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill with a milling scientist on staff, so we hit your density and mesh spec and hold it batch to batch. High-fat material such as heart usually needs cryogenic milling to reach a fine mesh at all. How it is made Where it ends up What our material is formulated into. The same bulk powder goes into very different finished products. These are the five categories our customers formulate for. Supplements and nutraceuticals Single-organ and multi-organ powders for capsules, tablets, and blends, milled to your density and mesh spec. Pet food and treats The material starts as human-grade food, never pet-downgraded, and is heat treated rather than chemically processed. The food we eat is what goes to our pets. Camping and travel food Freeze-dried protein that is shelf-stable, light, and rehydrates for backcountry and expedition formats. Emergency and preparedness food Long-shelf-life nutrient density for emergency rations and preparedness kits. Specialty snacks and ingredients Bulk freeze-dried ingredients for specialty snack lines and food manufacturers. One supply chain, two companies We distribute what our own factory makes. Gembra Health is the distributor. Flatiron Food Factory, our sister company, is the USDA-inspected manufacturer. Same ownership, same building, same standards, ten minutes from the warehouse your order ships from. Most competitors are importers and brokers. They can’t tell you what happened to the material before it reached them. We can, because we produced it. Inside the manufacturing What that vertical integration buys you Traceability that does not stop at a broker's paperwork Mesh and density specs held by the people who milled the powder Domestic warehousing, so lead times aren’t an ocean crossing One phone call covers sourcing, processing, and supply Buyer questions What buyers ask before they call. The terms, and the questions buyers actually raise before they order. Everything here applies across the catalog; pricing, current origin availability, and lead time come back with your quote. What is your minimum order quantity? 10 kg per ingredient. That is deliberate: it lets a customer qualify a lot on its own equipment, or run a first production batch, without committing to a year of inventory. Volume pricing applies as you scale, and we can supply through full production runs. What documentation comes with my order? A certificate of analysis, lab results, and a specification sheet come with every order. The certificate covers microbial testing and heavy metals screening. Past those three, every buyer’s file asks for something different, so tell us what yours needs and our quality team provides it. Allergen statements and country-of-origin records are routine requests. Nutritional analysis is one we can assist with rather than supply, because the numbers depend on your finished formulation. Is this human-grade material or pet-downgraded material? Human-grade, under USDA inspection. Most organ powders sold into the supplement category are produced under FDA guidelines using pet-downgraded raw material, which is then treated with high pressure, chemicals, or irradiation to control pathogens. We start with human-grade raw material under USDA oversight instead. That is true whether the finished powder goes into a capsule or into a pet treat. Where is the raw material actually sourced? Our flagship tier is US grass-fed, human-grade raw material processed under USDA inspection at our sister company’s facility in Loveland, Colorado. We also distribute material from New Zealand, Australia, South America, and China, all of it stocked in the United States. The New Zealand, Australian, and South American material is HPP-processed to those regions’ standards. Every origin is real supply, and we tell you plainly which one a given lot is. Country of origin is documented on every shipment. How fast can I get a quote, and what is the lead time? A quote comes back within 12 to 24 hours. Tell us the ingredient, the volume, and the mesh or density spec you need, and we return pricing, current origin availability, and lead time. Shipping is the part most suppliers cannot match: material already in stock ships in 7 to 10 business days, because it is sitting in the warehouse rather than on a boat. A custom run is 6 to 8 weeks. Can Gembra Health be my one-stop shop? Yes, and that is what the two companies are for. Most distributors are brokers with no plant behind them. Our sister company Flatiron Food Factory manufactures in the same building, so we can either source your material or have it made, and packaging runs from bulk to retail-ready with lot coding and labeling, in house for some customers. Encapsulation, pouching, and work past that scale go to trusted co-packers and encapsulators that Flatiron introduces and manages, most of them local. Tell us what the finished product needs to be and we will work out the material and manage the relationships from there. Is there any filler or flow agent in the powder? No. Single-ingredient bulk powders, no fillers, no flow agents, no additives. From the blog Ingredient guides for formulators. Zora Co-owner The woman-owned half of a WBENC-certified business, and the reason food safety is treated as a starting condition rather than a checkbox. Zora grew up in the Czech Republic as the granddaughter of farmers on both sides, spending summers working the orchards and the animals. She learned to cook by walking into the garden and gathering what the meal needed. That is a long way from a bulk ingredient catalog, and it is also exactly why the material we distribute starts as food a person would eat. Josh Co-owner The commercial side of the business, and the person most buyers end up speaking with about supply. Josh and Zora moved their family to Colorado in 2012 after a decade abroad, and built a food company together before this one. It is less familiar than liver, which makes it worth understanding before it goes on a spec sheet. This guide is for formulators, R&D leads and buyers at supplement, pet-nutrition, co-packing and pharmaceutical companies. It covers what kidney powder contains, how it differs from liver, and what to specify when you order it. What does beef kidney powder contain? Beef kidney naturally contains vitamin B12 and selenium. Kidney tissue also naturally contains diamine oxidase (DAO), an enzyme. Those are composition facts about the raw material. What a finished product may say about them is a separate question, and claims on a finished product are the brand owner’s to make and substantiate. A note on DAO If DAO is the reason kidney is in your formula, raise it at quote stage. Tell us how your specification describes it, and our quality team will work through what the documentation for a given lot can support. How does beef kidney differ from beef liver? Liver is usually chosen for its vitamin A and its broad vitamin and mineral profile. Kidney is usually chosen for its B12, selenium and DAO. That difference is why the two are often specified together rather than as substitutes, each bringing its own profile to a multi-organ formula. Our formulator’s guide to bovine liver powder covers liver in the same detail. Where do formulators use kidney powder? Kidney appears in three main places: single-organ kidney capsules, multi-organ blends built around liver, heart and kidney, and pet-nutrition formulas that use organ powders as a whole-food ingredient. For multi-organ work, the three hero organs can be quoted together. Heart has milling requirements of its own because of its fat content, which our post on bovine heart in supplement formulations explains. What should you specify when buying kidney powder? Specify the same things you would for any organ powder, and get each answer in writing. The choices below are the ones that change what you receive. Origin and tier Our flagship tier is US grass-fed, human-grade raw material under USDA inspection. We also distribute material from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all of it stocked in the United States. Material comes in four tiers: grass-fed, grass-finished, organic and conventional. A tier is not an origin, so say which of each you need. The New Zealand, Australian and South American material is HPP-processed to those regions’ standards. Our quality and sourcing standards cover each origin. Kill step and form Our flagship kidney is heat treated at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes by our sister company Flatiron Food Factory, then freeze-dried and milled. There is no high-pressure pasteurization, chemical bath or irradiation in that process. Freeze-dried is the premium tier. Desiccated is the value tier, sourced rather than made in house, and worth considering if you are buying on price. Fat, mesh and density Kidney is non-defatted by default, with defatted available on request. Flatiron mills with both a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill, so the density and mesh your line needs can be set and held across lots. Documentation A certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order. Anything else your file needs is available on request, and nutritional analysis is something we assist with rather than supply, because it depends on your finished formulation. Why use more of the animal? Specifying kidney alongside liver and heart puts more of each animal into finished products. That nose-to-tail sourcing story is one many customers want to be able to tell. It also widens what you can build. A catalog that runs from bovine kidney to the rest of the organ and glandular range means fewer suppliers to qualify. This article was published before Gembra Health led with US grass-fed sourcing, and it describes our supply as exclusively New Zealand. It is kept here unchanged as a record. Our flagship material today is US grass-fed and human-grade, produced under USDA or FDA inspection as the program calls for; New Zealand, Australia, and South America remain additional supply options. The health statements in this article have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The ingredients it describes are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Any claim made on a finished product is the responsibility of the brand that sells it. Our current sourcing position If you’re formulating supplements for the growing ancestral health market, you’ve probably noticed something interesting. While bovine organ powders like liver and heart have been gaining traction for years, there’s another category that’s quietly exploding in popularity: bovine glandulars. These specialized powders target specific endocrine and immune functions in ways that traditional organ supplements simply can’t match. But what exactly are glandulars, and how do they differ from the organ powders your customers already know and love? For supplement brands, formulators, and private label companies looking to expand their product lines, understanding bovine glandulars isn’t just helpful. It’s essential. The demand for targeted, whole-food-based endocrine support is growing faster than most people realize, and the brands that get ahead of this trend now will be the ones capturing market share in the coming years. At Gembra Health , we’ve been supplying premium New Zealand bovine glandulars to professional supplement manufacturers for years, and we’ve seen firsthand how these products are reshaping the nutraceutical landscape. What Are Bovine Glandulars? Bovine glandulars are freeze-dried powders made from the glands of grass-fed cattle. Unlike organ powders, which come from metabolic organs like the liver or kidneys, glandulars are derived from endocrine glands that produce hormones and regulate specific bodily functions. Think thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, thymus, and pituitary glands. These tissues contain unique peptides, enzymes, and cofactors that support the corresponding glands in the human body. The concept behind glandular therapy isn’t new. It’s actually rooted in a principle that goes back centuries: “like supports like.” The idea is that consuming tissue from a specific gland provides targeted nutritional support for that same gland in your own body. While the mechanisms aren’t fully understood by modern science, glandular supplements have been used in clinical practice for decades, particularly by functional medicine practitioners and naturopaths. What’s changed recently is the quality and sourcing of these products, along with consumer awareness of their benefits. We source our bovine glandulars exclusively from New Zealand, where cattle are raised on pristine pastures without hormones, antibiotics, or GMO feed. This isn’t just a marketing point. New Zealand’s strict agricultural standards and disease-free status make it the gold standard for glandular sourcing. When you’re dealing with endocrine tissue, purity matters more than ever. Hormone-disrupting chemicals, environmental toxins, and pharmaceutical residues can all accumulate in glandular tissue, which is why sourcing from the cleanest possible environment is non-negotiable. How Glandulars Differ From Organ Powders Here’s where things get interesting. While both glandulars and organ powders come from bovine sources and undergo freeze-drying, they serve fundamentally different nutritional purposes. Organ powders like liver, heart, and kidney are metabolic powerhouses. They’re packed with vitamins, minerals, and cofactors that support general health and energy production. Liver, for example, is loaded with vitamin A, B vitamins, iron, and copper. It’s essentially a whole-food multivitamin in powder form. Glandulars, on the other hand, are specialists. They contain tissue-specific compounds that don’t appear in significant amounts elsewhere. Bovine thyroid powder, for instance, contains naturally occurring thyroid hormones and the building blocks your body needs to produce its own thyroid hormones. Bovine thymus provides peptides that support immune function and T-cell production. Bovine pancreas delivers enzymes that aid in digestion and blood sugar regulation. You won’t find these same compounds in liver or heart powder, no matter how high the quality. This distinction matters when you’re formulating products. If your customers are looking for broad-spectrum nutritional support, organ powders are the way to go. But if they’re dealing with specific endocrine or immune challenges, glandulars offer targeted support that organs simply can’t provide. Many of our clients actually combine both categories in their formulations, creating comprehensive products that address multiple systems at once. It’s not an either-or proposition. It’s about understanding which tissues provide which benefits and formulating accordingly. The Glandulars We Supply and Why They Matter Let’s break down the specific glandular products we offer at Gembra Health and what makes each one valuable for your formulations. These aren’t obscure ingredients anymore. They’re becoming staples in high-end supplement lines, and for good reason. Bovine thyroid is probably the most well-known glandular supplement, and it’s one of our top sellers. The thyroid gland regulates metabolism, energy production, body temperature, and hormonal balance throughout the entire body. When thyroid function is suboptimal, everything suffers. Our bovine thyroid powder provides a natural source of thyroid hormones along with the nutrients needed for healthy thyroid function. It’s particularly popular among functional medicine practitioners who work with clients dealing with sluggish metabolism or low energy. For supplement brands, thyroid support products represent a massive and growing market segment, especially among women over 35 who make up the largest demographic seeking thyroid support. Bovine pancreas is another glandular that’s seeing increased demand, particularly in digestive health formulations. The pancreas produces enzymes that break down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, making proper digestion possible. Our bovine pancreas powder contains naturally occurring digestive enzymes along with tissue-specific factors that support pancreatic health. It’s commonly used in enzyme supplements, but it’s also finding its way into metabolic support formulas targeting blood sugar regulation. The pancreas doesn’t just handle digestion. It also produces insulin and glucagon, the hormones that control blood sugar. That dual function makes pancreatic support relevant for a much broader audience than most people realize. Bovine thymus is fascinating because it bridges endocrine support and immune function. The thymus gland is where T-cells mature, which makes it central to adaptive immunity. Our bovine thymus powder provides peptides and growth factors that support thymus health and, by extension, immune resilience. It’s particularly valuable for older adults, since thymus function naturally declines with age. But we’re also seeing increased interest from brands formulating immune support products for younger demographics who want proactive, whole-food-based immune support rather than isolated vitamins. Thymus also supports skin health, connective tissue, and even cardiovascular function, which gives it broader appeal beyond just immunity. We also supply bovine prostate and bovine testes (orchidic) for men’s health formulations. These glandulars are gaining serious traction in the men’s wellness space, particularly among younger men interested in natural testosterone support and reproductive health. Bovine prostate supports prostate health, healthy urine flow, and urinary tract function. It’s commonly used by men over 40 as a preventative measure. Bovine testes provides nutrients that support male hormone production and fertility. The men’s health supplement market is exploding right now, and glandular-based formulas are capturing a significant share of that growth. Finally, we offer ovine thymus alongside our bovine products. Some formulators prefer ovine (sheep) glandulars because sheep are even less likely to carry disease than cattle, and they graze on some of the most remote, pristine pastures in New Zealand. Functionally, ovine thymus provides the same immune and connective tissue support as bovine thymus, but some practitioners and brands prefer ovine sourcing for philosophical or marketing reasons. We provide both options so you can formulate according to your brand values and customer preferences. Why New Zealand Sourcing Makes All the Difference When you’re sourcing glandulars, origin matters more than almost anything else. Glandular tissue can concentrate environmental toxins, heavy metals, and pharmaceutical residues if the source animals are raised in industrial farming systems. New Zealand eliminates those concerns almost entirely. The country has some of the strictest agricultural regulations in the world, and it’s remained free from many of the diseases that affect cattle populations elsewhere. BSE (mad cow disease), foot-and-mouth disease, and other livestock illnesses that have plagued other regions are virtually nonexistent in New Zealand. Beyond disease-free status, New Zealand cattle are raised on pasture year-round. They’re grass-fed and grass-finished, meaning they never receive grain-based feed or spend time in feedlots. This isn’t just about omega-3 content or nutrient density, although those benefits are real. It’s about avoiding the contamination that comes from industrial feed operations, including mycotoxins, pesticide residues, and GMO exposure. When you’re producing glandular supplements that people will take specifically to support their endocrine health, you can’t afford to introduce new problems while trying to solve existing ones. Our freeze-drying process preserves the delicate peptides and enzymes found in glandular tissue without denaturing them through heat. We also keep our glandular powders non-defatted, which means they retain their natural fat content. This is critical because many of the bioactive compounds in glandular tissue are fat-soluble. Removing the fat to create a “leaner” powder might sound appealing from a marketing standpoint, but it actually reduces the nutritional value of the end product. We prioritize function over aesthetics, and that’s one of the reasons professional formulators keep coming back to us. Formulating With Glandulars: What You Need to Know If you’re considering adding glandulars to your product line, there are a few practical considerations worth discussing. First, dosing matters. Glandular supplements typically require higher doses than vitamin-based products to deliver noticeable benefits. Most clinical protocols use between 500mg and 2,000mg per day depending on the specific glandular and the intended outcome. That means you’ll need to account for capsule size, serving recommendations, and cost per serving when you’re developing your formulas. Second, glandulars work best as part of comprehensive formulations. Combining bovine thyroid with selenium, iodine, and zinc creates a more effective thyroid support product than thyroid alone. Pairing bovine pancreas with digestive enzymes and bile salts delivers better results for digestive health. The glandular provides tissue-specific support, while the cofactors ensure the body has everything it needs to utilize that support effectively. We work with many formulators who use our glandulars as foundational ingredients and then build around them with complementary nutrients. Third, sourcing transparency is becoming increasingly important to consumers. The supplement industry has been burned too many times by low-quality imports and undisclosed sourcing practices. Your customers want to know where their glandulars come from, how they’re processed, and what quality controls are in place. Working with a supplier that can provide complete traceability from pasture to powder isn’t just a nice-to-have anymore. It’s a competitive advantage. We maintain full documentation on our sourcing and processing, and we’re happy to provide that information to brands that want to share their sourcing story with their customers. Building Your Brand Around Glandular Supplements The ancestral health movement has created a unique opportunity for supplement brands willing to go deeper than surface-level wellness trends. Consumers in this space aren’t looking for the cheapest option or the most convenient packaging. They’re looking for products that actually work, backed by real ingredients from trustworthy sources. Glandular supplements fit perfectly into this market because they represent a return to traditional nutrition practices that have been largely forgotten in modern diets. Nobody eats organ meats anymore, let alone glandular tissue. But our ancestors consumed these parts of the animal regularly, and they reaped the nutritional benefits that came with it. Glandular supplements allow people to access those same benefits without having to source, prepare, and consume actual glands. It’s ancestral nutrition made practical for modern life, and that’s a message that resonates powerfully with health-conscious consumers who are tired of synthetic vitamins and isolated compounds that don’t reflect how nutrition actually works in nature. If you’re ready to add premium bovine glandulars to your product line, we’re here to help. At Gembra Health, we’ve built our reputation on providing the highest-quality New Zealand bovine and ovine powders to professional supplement manufacturers across the country. Whether you’re launching a new brand or expanding an existing line, we bring the experience, certifications, and commitment to quality that your products deserve. It is general information for ingredient buyers and formulators, not medical advice. Gembra Health has not independently verified every statement here and makes no representation that the article is accurate, complete, or current. Any claim made on a finished product is the responsibility of the brand that sells it. Our current sourcing position When supplement formulators think about cardiovascular support, their minds often jump to fish oil, magnesium, or synthetic CoQ10. What gets overlooked is one of the most concentrated natural sources of heart supporting nutrients available: bovine heart powder. As a whole food ingredient packed with naturally occurring coenzyme Q10, essential amino acids, and bioactive peptides, heart tissue offers something synthetic supplements simply cannot replicate. We’ve spent years working with supplement manufacturers who are looking beyond isolated compounds to create formulations that honor traditional nutrition wisdom while meeting modern quality standards. Bovine heart powder isn’t trying to be a pharmaceutical alternative. It’s simply providing what heart tissue has always provided: concentrated nutrition specifically designed to support cardiac function. What Makes Bovine Heart Different from Other Organ Powders Heart tissue isn’t just another organ powder you can swap in and out of formulations. The cardiovascular system has distinct nutritional demands, and heart tissue evolved to meet those demands with a unique nutrient profile. Where liver excels at providing vitamin A and iron, and kidney specializes in selenium and B vitamins, heart tissue concentrates the compounds necessary for sustained muscle contraction, energy production, and cellular protection under oxidative stress. The primary distinction comes from coenzyme Q10 concentration. Heart muscle contains higher levels of naturally occurring CoQ10 than virtually any other tissue in the body because cardiac cells require enormous amounts of ATP to maintain constant rhythmic contractions. Every heartbeat demands energy, and CoQ10 plays an essential role in mitochondrial ATP production. When you’re formulating with bovine heart powder, you’re not just adding generic protein. You’re providing one of the richest whole food sources of this crucial cardiovascular nutrient in its natural matrix. Beyond CoQ10, bovine heart provides a complete amino acid profile rich in taurine, carnitine, and other nitrogen containing compounds that support cardiac metabolism. These aren’t isolated supplements added to the powder. They’re intrinsic components of heart tissue that work synergistically in ways we’re still discovering through research. The collagen and elastin present in heart tissue also provide structural protein that supports vascular integrity, something particularly relevant for formulators targeting comprehensive cardiovascular wellness rather than single pathway interventions. The Science Behind CoQ10 and Cardiovascular Function Coenzyme Q10 operates at the cellular level as an electron carrier in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, facilitating the conversion of nutrients into usable cellular energy. For heart muscle cells that contract continuously, this energy production capacity isn’t optional. Research has consistently demonstrated that cardiac tissue maintains some of the highest CoQ10 concentrations in the body, and levels naturally decline with age alongside increased cardiovascular disease risk. Studies examining CoQ10 supplementation have shown promising results across multiple cardiovascular conditions. Research has demonstrated that CoQ10 may support improved outcomes in heart failure patients when used alongside standard therapies, with some studies reporting reduced cardiovascular mortality and hospital readmissions. The mechanisms appear multifaceted, including antioxidant protection against oxidative stress, improved endothelial function, and enhanced mitochondrial energy production in cardiac cells. What’s particularly relevant for formulators is the distinction between synthetic CoQ10 and CoQ10 occurring naturally in food matrices like bovine heart. While isolated supplements certainly have their place, whole food sources deliver this nutrient alongside the full spectrum of cardiac supporting compounds. You’re getting CoQ10 in its native environment, surrounded by the phospholipids, proteins, and cofactors that evolved alongside it. The cardiovascular system responds to oxidative stress, and CoQ10 functions as a powerful antioxidant protecting cellular membranes from free radical damage. Why Processing Method Matters for Heart Powder Quality You can source the highest quality grass fed bovine heart tissue available, but if processing destroys the nutrients you’re trying to preserve, you’ve accomplished nothing. The processing method directly determines whether CoQ10, amino acids, and bioactive compounds survive intact or get degraded into nutritionally inferior forms. Freeze drying removes water from frozen tissue through sublimation under vacuum conditions. Ice crystals transition directly to vapor without passing through a liquid phase, which preserves cellular structures and heat sensitive nutrients. The process operates at extremely low temperatures, protecting CoQ10 from oxidative degradation and maintaining the structural integrity of peptides and proteins. What you end up with is essentially dehydrated heart tissue that retains the nutrient density of the fresh organ. Compare this to heat based processing methods that expose organ tissue to high temperatures. Heat accelerates oxidation of CoQ10, denatures proteins, and can destroy heat labile vitamins present in heart tissue. You might technically still have bovine heart powder, but you’ve fundamentally altered its nutritional profile. For brands claiming cardiovascular support through whole food ingredients, this distinction matters. At our New Zealand facility, we maintain strict temperature controls throughout freeze drying to protect nutrient integrity. Our cGMP certified operation uses validated protocols for consistency across batches, and third party testing verifies that CoQ10 levels remain stable from tissue collection through final powder production. Sourcing Standards That Actually Impact Product Quality Where bovine heart tissue comes from determines what kind of starting material you’re working with. New Zealand has built a reputation as a premium source for grass fed bovine ingredients for concrete reasons related to farming practices and regulatory oversight. When we source from New Zealand cattle, we’re accessing animals raised on year round pasture without routine antibiotics, added hormones, or GMO feed. The grass fed distinction matters because cardiac tissue accumulates nutrients from the animal’s diet over its lifetime. Cattle fed on diverse pasture grasses consume a broader spectrum of micronutrients compared to grain finished cattle. These nutrients become incorporated into the heart tissue and remain present in the finished powder after freeze drying. You’re getting nutritionally superior tissue with a more complete micronutrient profile. New Zealand’s biosecurity protocols also minimize exposure to diseases affecting livestock. The geographic isolation, combined with stringent import restrictions, means herds remain largely free from conditions like BSE that have plagued beef industries elsewhere. For manufacturers concerned about supply chain integrity and consumer safety, this biosecurity advantage provides substantial risk mitigation. We maintain direct relationships with New Zealand farms that meet our regenerative agriculture standards, ensuring traceability from pasture to powder. When brands partner with us for bovine heart powder, they’re accessing this entire infrastructure. The sourcing standards become part of their product story, giving them legitimate differentiation in a crowded supplement market. Formulation Considerations for Cardiovascular Supplements Bovine heart powder works effectively as a standalone cardiovascular ingredient and combines well with complementary nutrients to create comprehensive formulations. Understanding how heart powder interacts with other common cardiovascular supplements helps formulators build products that target multiple pathways without creating redundancies. Magnesium pairs particularly well with bovine heart because it supports different aspects of cardiovascular function. Where heart powder provides CoQ10 and cardiac specific peptides, magnesium contributes to vascular relaxation and blood pressure regulation. Similarly, omega fatty acids from fish oil or algae sources address inflammatory pathways and membrane fluidity that bovine heart doesn’t specifically target. You’re building a more complete cardiovascular support system. For brands focusing on athletic performance or active aging, bovine heart powder also combines effectively with adaptogenic herbs that support cardiovascular stress response. The energy production capacity from natural CoQ10 works synergistically with adaptogens like rhodiola or cordyceps that optimize oxygen utilization. This appeals to consumers who want whole food based performance support without relying exclusively on stimulants. Dosage considerations depend on your target CoQ10 delivery and overall formulation goals. Most cardiovascular supplement research with CoQ10 uses dosages in the range of 100 to 400 milligrams daily. Our technical team can provide CoQ10 analysis data for our heart powder to assist in your formulation calculations. Third Party Testing and Quality Verification Quality claims only matter if they’re backed by verifiable testing data. Every batch of bovine heart powder we produce undergoes comprehensive third party analysis before shipping. This provides the documentation supplement brands need to confidently make claims about their products. Our standard testing panel includes microbial analysis to verify absence of pathogens, heavy metal screening, and nutritional analysis that quantifies protein content, moisture levels, and key nutrients including CoQ10. We also test specifically for residual antibiotics and hormones. These aren’t occasional spot checks but batch specific tests that create a complete quality record. For supplement brands navigating FDA compliance or preparing for third party certifications, having supplier testing documentation becomes essential. We provide Certificates of Analysis with every shipment detailing exactly what was tested, which methods were used, and what results were obtained. The testing also ensures batch to batch consistency, giving your formulations predictable performance characteristics. Building Cardiovascular Product Lines That Stand Out The supplement market has no shortage of cardiovascular products using the same handful of ingredients. For brands looking to create meaningful distinction, whole food ingredients like bovine heart powder offer a genuine alternative positioning that resonates with consumers seeking ancestral nutrition approaches. The narrative advantage of organ based supplements shouldn’t be underestimated. There’s a growing consumer segment that understands the concept of like supports like. While the mechanisms are more complex than simple tissue matching, the communication simplicity helps consumers grasp why bovine heart makes sense for cardiovascular support. This positioning works particularly well for brands targeting paleo, ancestral diet, or nose to tail nutrition communities. We’ve built our operation around providing transparent partnerships that prioritize quality. That’s why we source exclusively from New Zealand grass fed cattle, invest in freeze drying technology instead of cheaper processing methods, and conduct comprehensive third party testing on every batch. When brands work with us on cardiovascular formulations, they’re accessing infrastructure needed to create products that genuinely stand apart. If you’re developing cardiovascular supplement lines and want to explore how bovine heart powder could strengthen your formulations, we’re here to help. We work with everyone from established brands to startup companies, providing the same attention to quality regardless of order size. The supplement industry has plenty of suppliers. What we offer is partnership in building products that actually deliver on their cardiovascular support promises. Keep reading More ingredient guides. It turns up in single-organ capsules, multi-organ blends, pet-nutrition formulas and whole-food nutrient products. This guide is for the person specifying it: the formulator, R&D lead or buyer deciding which liver powder to put on a spec sheet and who to buy it from. It covers what the material contains, the choices you make when you order it, and the questions worth asking any supplier. What does bovine liver powder contain? Liver naturally contains vitamin A, vitamin B12, folate, choline, heme iron, copper and zinc. That broad profile in a single ingredient is why formulators specify it. Those are composition facts about the raw material. What a finished product may say about them is a separate question, and claims on a finished product are the brand owner’s to make and substantiate. Why vitamin A matters to the formulator Liver’s vitamin A content is a large part of why it is chosen, and the reason serving size needs thought. It is also the question your own customers are most likely to raise. That makes it a formulation and labeling decision rather than a raw-material defect. Our quality team will work through the nutritional side with you. The analysis itself depends on your finished formulation, so it is something we assist with rather than supply. Heme iron and the whole-food profile The iron in liver is heme iron, the form found in animal tissue. It arrives alongside the copper, vitamin A and B vitamins that liver naturally carries, which is why formulators use liver as a whole-food ingredient rather than rebuilding the same list from isolated nutrients. Freeze-dried or desiccated: which tier fits the formula? Freeze-dried is the premium tier. Desiccated is the value tier. The choice is usually about budget and positioning, and both are legitimate. Freeze-drying removes water by sublimation after the material is frozen. It is the gentlest commercial drying method available, which is why freeze-dried is the premium tier. Desiccated material is sourced rather than made in house, and the difference per kilo is large enough to matter if you are buying on price. Technically all powder is dried, so as a category “desiccated” simply means not freeze-dried. Price for either comes back with the quote. Drying is not the kill step Every organ powder needs a pathogen control step. Our flagship US liver is heat treated in commercial ovens at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes by our sister company Flatiron Food Factory, and only then freeze-dried and milled. The industry’s usual kill step is high-pressure pasteurization, typically paired with a chemical bath or irradiation. Our flagship material goes through none of the three. How our material is processed walks through each step. Should liver powder be defatted or non-defatted? Non-defatted is the default, and it suits most liver formulas. Defatting strips the fat-soluble vitamins, and vitamin A is one of them. Defatted liver is available on request for formulas that call for it. If yours does, put the defatted spec on the quote request. Our post on non-defatted vs. defatted organ powders goes further into the trade-off. Mesh and density: why milling matters Uneven particle size is what makes a powder fill capsules inconsistently from lot to lot. The fix is a supplier that mills in house and can hold a spec across lots. Flatiron runs both a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill, with a milling scientist on staff deciding which a given material needs. Density and mesh are set to your formulation and held batch to batch, rather than drifting when dried material is sent out to a separate miller. There is no single right mesh for liver. Tell us the density and mesh your line runs at and we will confirm whether it is achievable before you order. Sourcing: origin and tier are two separate questions Our flagship tier is US grass-fed, human-grade raw material under USDA inspection. We also distribute liver from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all of it stocked in the United States. Material comes in four tiers: grass-fed, grass-finished, organic and conventional. A tier is not an origin, so a lot should always be described by both. The New Zealand, Australian and South American material is HPP-processed to those regions’ standards. Our quality and sourcing standards set out each origin in more detail. What should a buyer ask a liver powder supplier? Ask questions whose answers you can check on paper. A good supplier answers all of these on the first call. Origin and tier. Which country, and which of grass-fed, grass-finished, organic or conventional, for this specific lot. Raw material grade. Human-grade under USDA inspection, or FDA pet-downgraded material. Kill step. Heat treatment, or high-pressure pasteurization with a chemical bath or irradiation. Form. Freeze-dried or desiccated. Fat. Non-defatted or defatted. Mesh and density. Whether the supplier mills in house and can hold your spec across lots. Fillers. Ours are single-ingredient powders with no fillers, flow agents or additives. Lead time. Our material held in stock ships in 7 to 10 business days. A custom run is 6 to 8 weeks. What documentation ships with every order? A certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order, not on request. The certificate covers microbial testing, heavy metals and water activity. Past those three, every buyer’s file asks for something different. Tell us what yours needs and our quality team provides it. Request a quote for bovine liver powder Send us the tier, form, fat spec and the mesh or density you formulate to. As raw materials, though, they have very little in common. Collagen is one protein, extracted from connective tissue. A glandular powder is a whole organ or gland, dried and milled. This post compares them the way a formulator has to: what each one is, what it contains, how it is processed and specified, and when a formula calls for one or the other. What is a glandular powder? A glandular powder is whole organ or gland tissue with most of its water removed, milled to a powder. Nothing is extracted or isolated. The powder is the tissue. The term covers glands such as thymus, thyroid, adrenal and pancreas, and is often used loosely for the wider organ range too: liver, heart, kidney, spleen and the rest. Each tissue has its own composition, so a glandular is always specified by organ. Liver naturally contains vitamin A, B12, folate, copper and heme iron. Heart naturally contains CoQ10. Our flagship glandular and organ powders are US grass-fed, heat treated at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, freeze-dried and milled by our sister company, Flatiron Food Factory. Freeze-dried glandulars: how lyophilization works walks through that process. What is collagen powder? Collagen is the main structural protein in skin, bone, tendon and other connective tissue. Collagen powder is that protein extracted from those tissues. Commercially it is usually hydrolyzed, meaning broken down into shorter peptides, so that it dissolves in water; that is what “collagen peptides” and “hydrolyzed collagen” on a label refer to. Its composition is narrow by design. It is a protein ingredient, high in the amino acids glycine, proline and hydroxyproline, rather than a source of vitamins and minerals. Bovine collagen is in our catalog alongside the organ range, for customers who want to consolidate ingredient purchasing with one supplier. Source, form and specification are confirmed per quote. How do collagen and glandular powders differ as raw materials? In almost every line of the spec. Collagen is an extracted, usually hydrolyzed single protein; a glandular is a whole tissue that has only been dried and milled. Starting material. Glandular: a single organ or gland. Collagen: connective tissue, skin or bone. What is done to it. Glandular: heat treated or otherwise pathogen-controlled, dried, milled. Collagen: protein extracted, usually hydrolyzed, dried. Composition. Glandular: everything the tissue contains (protein, fat, vitamins, minerals). Collagen: predominantly one protein. Fat. Glandular: non-defatted by default, defatted on request. Collagen: typically very low. In water. Glandular: disperses; does not dissolve. Collagen: hydrolyzed collagen dissolves. Specified by. Glandular: organ, origin, tier, form, fat, mesh and density. Collagen: source, degree of hydrolysis, form. Two of those lines drive most formulation decisions. Solubility decides the delivery format: hydrolyzed collagen suits drink mixes and stick packs, while organ powder is usually encapsulated. Fat decides how a glandular mills and flows, which is why high-fat tissue such as heart usually needs a cryogenic mill to reach a fine mesh. When should a formula specify collagen, and when a glandular? Specify collagen when the formula needs a soluble protein ingredient built on glycine and proline. Specify a glandular when the formula is built around a particular organ and what that tissue naturally contains. The two are not substitutes for each other. A liver formula cannot swap in collagen, and a collagen drink mix cannot swap in thymus. Where they do meet is in multi-ingredient formulas that carry both, and there the practical questions are mechanical: Density. The two powders are unlikely to share a bulk density, which affects fill weight and how a blend behaves in a hopper. Ask for density on both specification sheets. Particle size. Matching mesh across ingredients reduces segregation in a dry blend. Flatiron mills our organ powders to the mesh and density you set. Moisture. Organ powder is hygroscopic. Water activity is on the certificate of analysis, so you can check it against the rest of the blend. What about bone, trachea and bone broth? These sit between the two categories. They are whole-tissue powders in which collagen is one component among several, not a collagen isolate. Bovine bone and marrow is a whole-food source of collagen and trace minerals. Bovine trachea is a natural source of chondroitin and other cartilage-derived compounds. Bovine bone (MCH) is microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, a whole-bone complex that contains calcium, phosphorus and collagen. Bovine bone broth is a powdered broth that contains collagen, gelatin and amino acids. A formulator who wants collagen alongside the rest of the tissue’s composition specifies one of these. One who wants the protein on its own specifies collagen. Sourcing and documentation US grass-fed is the flagship tier for our organ and glandular powders. Grass-finished, organic and conventional tiers are also available, and so is material from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all stocked in the US. We tell you plainly which origin and tier a lot is. A certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order, whichever ingredient you buy. What a finished product then says about collagen or organ content is the brand owner’s claim to make and substantiate, and that paperwork is what it rests on. Quality and sourcing covers how the material is processed and documented. Our current sourcing position Gembra Health is now partnering with fresh food and nutraceutical producers looking to expand into the trending freeze-dried food marketplace. Using freeze-drying (lyophilization) food producers can achieve exceptional nutrient preservation, economical, lightweight packaging suitable for long-term storage. Freeze-Drying (lyophilization) for Exceptional Nutrient Preservation, Smart Packaging and Long-Term Storage Preserve Nutrients In the world of food preservation, freeze-drying (lyophilization) is a remarkable process for retaining the nutritional value and flavors of many types of food products. If you are a food producer who is looking for an effective way to package your product and ensure optimal nutrient preservation, you can now rely on Gembra Health to provide these benefits by using their freeze-drying process for your product. Retain Aesthetic Appeal Freeze-drying preserves much of the original colors and shapes of the raw material, resulting in aesthetically pleasing, aromatic, appetizing foods. The intense flavor and aroma of freeze-dried ingredients also closely resembles the profile of the raw material, which reassures your consumers they are actually getting real fruits and vegetables in their diets. Smart Packaging and Storage The freeze-drying process results in space-saving lightweight packaging which saves on storage space and shipping costs. For the end-consumer, freeze-dried foods are highly desirable as they only need to rehydrate desired serving portions, thereby reducing waste. Understanding Freeze Drying (Lyophilization) Freeze drying, also known as lyophilization, is a specialized preservation method that removes moisture from food products while maintaining their original structure and nutritional content. This process is composed of three primary phases: freezing, primary drying, and secondary drying. Let us explore the freeze-drying (lyophilization) process and how Gembra excels in helping you achieve exceptional nutrient preservation. Freezing: This first step subjects the food product to extremely low temperatures, typically around -40°C to -50°C. This freezing phase solidifies the water content within the food, converting it into ice. Primary Drying: Next, the frozen food is placed in a vacuum chamber. In this controlled environment, the pressure is lowered while slightly increasing the temperature. This change in pressure and temperature induces a process known as sublimation, where the ice transitions directly from a solid to a gas without passing through the liquid phase. As a result, the water content is removed from the food, leaving behind a porous structure. Secondary Drying: During this final stage, any remaining moisture is removed from the food, ensuring that it reaches a moisture level that is safe for long-term storage. Why Choose Gembra Health as a Freeze-Drying Partner: Cutting-Edge Technology: We have invested in state-of-the-art freeze-drying equipment that allows for precise control over temperature and pressure conditions. That split matters when you qualify a supplier. A broker can forward you a certificate, but it cannot tell you what happened to the material before it arrived. We can, because the people who processed it work in the same building. Our manufacturing page explains how the two companies fit together. Stage 1: raw material The first decision shapes everything downstream. Our flagship tier is US grass-fed, human-grade raw material under USDA inspection, rather than the FDA pet-downgraded material much of this category starts from. It is not the only option. Material comes in four tiers: grass-fed, grass-finished, organic and conventional. We also distribute material from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all of it stocked in the United States. Tier and origin are separate facts, and we state both for every lot. The New Zealand, Australian and South American material is HPP-processed to those regions’ standards. It is a legitimate, less expensive option and sometimes the right call. Our quality and sourcing page sets out the tiers and origins in full. Stage 2: heat treatment How are pathogens controlled? For our flagship material, Flatiron heat treats the raw material in commercial ovens at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, and higher where a program calls for it. That replaces the kill step most of the industry uses: high-pressure pasteurization, usually paired with a chemical bath or irradiation. Our flagship material goes through none of the three. It comes out of the ovens looking almost rare, and then it goes on to freeze-drying. Stage 3: freeze-drying Why freeze-dry rather than spray-dry or heat-dry? Freeze-drying removes water from frozen material by sublimation, so the powder never goes through the heat of spray-drying or conventional dehydration. The process runs in three parts. The material is frozen. Under vacuum, the ice turns directly to vapor, which is primary drying. A final stage, secondary drying, removes the remaining bound moisture. Flatiron runs this step for our flagship material. Freeze-dried is our premium tier. Desiccated powder is the value tier, sourced rather than made in house, and we tell you which one you are buying. Our post on how freeze-drying works for glandular powders goes further into the drying step. Stage 4: milling to spec Milling is where a powder becomes something a production line can run. Flatiron mills in house, with a hammer mill for most material and a cryogenic mill for very fine mesh, high-density specs and high-fat material such as heart. A milling scientist on staff decides which one a lot needs. Density and mesh are set to your formulation, then held batch to batch. That is what keeps capsule fill weights steady from one lot to the next. Most freeze dryers have no milling capability and send dried material out to a separate mill, and that handoff is where lot-to-lot drift tends to start. Material is non-defatted by default, and defatted on request. Our post on defatted vs non-defatted organ powders covers when each one makes sense. Stage 5: testing and documentation What ships with the powder? A certificate of analysis, the lab results behind it and a specification sheet, with every order. The certificate covers microbial testing, heavy metals and water activity. Anything else your file needs, such as allergen statements or country-of-origin records, is available on request. Nutritional analysis is something we assist with rather than supply, because the numbers depend on your finished formulation rather than on the raw lot. Stage 6: warehousing and dispatch Finished material is warehoused in Loveland, Colorado. Material in stock ships in 7 to 10 business days; a custom run takes 6 to 8 weeks. Imported origins sit on a domestic shelf too. Buying New Zealand or Australian material from us means ordering from US stock, not waiting on a sea crossing and a customs clearance. Every powder is single-ingredient, with no fillers, flow agents or additives. Where does the powder get encapsulated? With your encapsulator or co-packer, or with one Flatiron introduces. Gembra supplies the bulk powder. Packaging runs from bulk to retail-ready with lot coding and labeling, done in house for some customers, and encapsulation, pouching and larger work go to trusted partners that Flatiron introduces or manages. That lets you treat us as a one-stop shop. Tell us what the finished product needs to be, and we work out the material and manage the relationships from there. If all you need is the powder, that works too. Claims on the finished product belong to the brand owner, who makes and substantiates them. What we supply is the material, and the paperwork that shows what it is. Why the whole chain matters to a buyer Each stage leaves a mark on the powder you receive. Raw material decides the grade. The kill step decides how processed the material is. Milling decides whether it runs on your line the same way twice. Documentation decides whether your quality team can sign it off without a chase. When you qualify an organ powder supplier, ask about every link, not just the last one. Request a quote with the organ, volume and mesh or density spec you need. Those matter. But there is another variable that deserves the same attention from formulators: whether the powder is defatted or non-defatted. It changes what the powder contains, and it changes how the powder behaves on your line. At Gembra Health, our powders are non-defatted by default and defatted on request. Processing is done by our sister company, Flatiron Food Factory. Here is how to decide which one your formulation should specify. What is the difference between defatted and non-defatted organ powder? Defatted powder has had most of its natural fat removed; non-defatted powder keeps it. That single step changes the composition, the handling and the shelf behavior of the material. Defatting methods vary between suppliers, so ask any supplier how theirs is done. The resulting powder is leaner and often lighter in color, and with less fat there is less to oxidize. Non-defatted powder skips the extraction step and keeps the organ’s natural fat, along with everything that sits in it. On the surface, defatting can look like the simpler choice. Fat makes a powder harder to handle, and removing it helps shelf stability. The trade-off is in what leaves with the fat. Organ tissue is used in formulations because of what it naturally contains, and several of those compounds are fat-soluble. When the fat comes out of liver, heart, kidney or brain tissue, some of those compounds can come out with it. What gets lost when you remove the fat? Mainly the fat-soluble fraction. Vitamins A, D, E and K dissolve in fat rather than water, and defatting can take some of them out of the powder. Liver is the clearest example. It naturally contains vitamin A, and that vitamin A sits in the fat of the tissue. Remove the fat and part of it can go too. The same applies to other fat-soluble compounds. Heart naturally contains coenzyme Q10, a fat-soluble molecule. Brain naturally contains phospholipids and omega-3 fatty acids, which are themselves lipids. Defatting does not just lower the fat figure on a spec sheet. It changes what the powder is. Why do some suppliers choose defatting anyway? Mostly for handling and shelf life. These are real advantages, and for some formulas they are the right call. Defatted powders can flow more smoothly through filling equipment. They are less prone to stickiness and clumping, which makes storage and handling simpler. Lower fat content also means less exposure to rancidity, so shelf life is easier to manage. For high-volume lines that prioritize throughput, those benefits count. There is also a perception issue. Some buyers read lower fat as higher purity. For a whole-organ ingredient, that reading is usually backwards: the fat is part of what the organ is, and taking it out makes a narrower product, not a more refined one. When does non-defatted powder make sense for a formulation? When the formula is built around the whole organ. Non-defatted powder keeps a composition closer to the tissue it came from, which is usually the point of a single-organ or multi-organ product. Consider what that means organ by organ. Non-defatted bovine liver powder keeps the fat its vitamin A sits in. Bovine heart powder keeps its CoQ10 in its native lipid environment. Bovine brain powder keeps its phospholipid content. For customers positioning in the whole-food or ancestral segments, non-defatted material matches what their own buyers expect. People choosing liver capsules or beef organ complexes are usually looking for something as close to the whole food as possible, not a fat-stripped derivative. That gives you something honest to say about your sourcing and processing choices. Claims on the finished product are yours to make and substantiate, and a clear spec makes that easier. When should a formula specify defatted powder? When flow, fat content or shelf life matters more to the formula than the fat-soluble fraction. Defatted is a legitimate spec, and we supply it on request. Common reasons include a blend where fat content has to be held low, a line that struggles with sticky material, or a finished format with a long shelf-life target. High-fat organs such as heart are also harder to mill in their natural state. Flatiron runs both a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill, so it can mill fatty and defatted material alike, and heart usually needs the cryogenic mill to reach a fine mesh at all. If your formulation needs a defatted spec, say so on the quote request. What to look for when evaluating suppliers Ask about fat content as a standard part of supplier evaluation. Not every supplier volunteers it. A supplier who can explain what they do, and offer either option, understands the ingredient. Beyond defatting, ask about the other processing steps that shape the powder. Start with the kill step. At Flatiron, raw material for our flagship tier is heat treated at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, with no high-pressure pasteurization, chemical bath or irradiation. Then ask about drying: freeze-drying removes water by sublimation and avoids the heat of spray-drying. Our post on how bovine organ powder is made, from raw material to capsule walks through every step. Ask about origin and tier as well. Material comes in grass-fed, grass-finished, organic and conventional tiers, and origin is a separate question. A good supplier tells you both for every lot. Our flagship tier is US grass-fed, human-grade raw material under USDA inspection. We also distribute material from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all stocked in the United States. Our product catalog covers liver, heart, kidney, brain and the full glandular range. Every order ships with a certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet. Making the right choice for your formulation The choice between defatted and non-defatted comes down to what the formula is for. If it is built around the whole organ, non-defatted keeps the composition closer to the tissue. If flow, fat content or shelf life comes first, defatted may be the better spec. Your customers are buying organ products because of what the organ naturally contains. Knowing exactly what was, or was not, taken out before the powder reached your facility is part of what lets you stand behind your label. Ask hard questions of any supplier you are considering. How are their powders processed, and can they supply both specs? The answers will tell you a lot. Ready to spec a non-defatted or defatted bovine organ powder? Before you compare prices, it pays to know who actually made the material and what they can show you about it. This guide covers what to check. It also explains how our two companies divide the work. Gembra Health is a distributor. Our sister company, Flatiron Food Factory, is the manufacturer. Same owners, same building in Loveland, Colorado. Is your supplier a manufacturer, a distributor or a broker? Ask first who made the powder. Many suppliers in this category are importers and brokers. They can forward a certificate, but they cannot tell you what happened to the material before it reached them, because they were not there. A manufacturer runs the process and can answer for it. A distributor holds stock and handles supply. Buying from a distributor that sits beside its own manufacturer gives you both. Gembra distributes what Flatiron Food Factory makes, so process questions are answered by the people who ran the process. What certifications should a powder ingredient manufacturer hold? Look for current Good Manufacturing Practice, and ask which agency inspects the plant. GMP tells you production runs under documented quality systems. The inspection regime tells you what kind of raw material the plant starts from. Flatiron Food Factory’s facility is GMP-certified and is a federally inspected USDA establishment. Most organ powder in this category is produced under FDA guidelines from pet-downgraded raw material. Our flagship tier starts with human-grade raw material under USDA inspection instead. Not every program needs USDA, and Flatiron also produces under FDA regulation when a filing calls for it. Our quality and sourcing page explains the difference. What testing and documents should come with each order? Ask what ships with the order, not what is available if you ask. A certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order we send. The certificate covers microbial testing, heavy metals screening and water activity. The lab results are the reports behind it. Anything else your file needs, such as allergen statements or country-of-origin records, is available on request. Nutritional analysis is worth asking about carefully. It depends on your finished formulation rather than the raw lot, so we assist with it rather than supply it. Milling to your mesh and density spec A powder that changes density from lot to lot will not fill a capsule the same way twice. Ask whether the supplier mills in house and who sets the spec. Many freeze dryers have no milling capability and send dried material to a separate company to mill. That hand-off is where lot-to-lot drift starts. Flatiron runs a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill with a milling scientist on staff, so density and mesh are set to your formulation and held batch to batch. High-fat material such as heart usually needs the cryogenic mill to reach a fine mesh at all. Our manufacturing page walks through the full process. What lead time and minimum order should you expect? Get both in writing at quote, and ask whether the lead time you are given is for stocked material or a new run. Our minimum order is 10 kg per ingredient. Material we hold in stock ships in 7 to 10 business days. A custom run is 6 to 8 weeks. The shorter figure applies only to material already on the shelf, so share your volume projections early if you will need a custom run. Packaging and the steps after milling Ask what happens after the powder is made. Some buyers only need bulk material. Others need packaging, lot coding and a route to encapsulation. Flatiron handles packaging from bulk to retail-ready, with lot coding and labeling, in house for some customers. Encapsulation, pouching and work past that scale go to trusted partners that Flatiron introduces or manages. If you need material made to your formulation, or want your own material freeze-dried, that is a custom run or a tolling job through Flatiron. A short checklist Who made the material, and can they answer process questions directly? Is the plant GMP-certified, and which agency inspects it? Which documents ship with every order? Can the supplier set and hold your density and mesh spec? Which origin and which material tier is this lot? What is the lead time for stocked material, and for a custom run? Our current sourcing position The global demand for nutrient-dense, organ-based supplements is growing faster than ever. Consumers are seeking whole-food, bioavailable nutrition to support their energy, immunity, digestion, and overall wellness — and supplement brands are racing to meet that demand with high-quality, science-backed products. For many companies, the most efficient and cost-effective way to enter this market or expand their product line is through private labeling. Private label manufacturing allows you to launch premium supplements without the heavy investment and complexity of building production infrastructure. And when it comes to organ-based ingredients — from bovine liver and kidney powders to thymus, spleen, and adrenal glandulars — partnering with an experienced supplier is critical. That’s where Gembra Health comes in. We’re more than just a bulk ingredient supplier. We’re a full-service partner that helps nutraceutical brands develop, customize, and launch high-performance organ supplements under their own label. From sourcing and processing to formulation and quality testing, every step of our private label process is designed to help you succeed in a rapidly growing market. Here’s how it works — and why Gembra Health is the ideal partner to help you build your organ supplement brand. Why Private Label Supplements Are Booming The private label model has revolutionized the supplement industry. Instead of investing in manufacturing facilities, equipment, staff, and compliance infrastructure, brands can focus on what they do best: marketing, customer experience, and brand building. Meanwhile, the production side — sourcing raw materials, processing, testing, and packaging — is handled by an experienced partner. This model offers several key advantages: Faster time to market: Launch new products in months instead of years. Lower startup costs: Avoid the capital expenditure of setting up a manufacturing facility. Scalability: Scale production as your brand grows without disrupting operations. Customization: Create unique formulas that reflect your brand’s identity and customer needs. Expertise: Leverage the knowledge and experience of a team that specializes in organ-based nutraceuticals. With the rising popularity of whole-food nutrition and ancestral supplements, organ-based products are one of the most promising categories in the private label space. Whether it’s bovine liver powder for energy and detox support, thymus and spleen powders for immune health, or thyroid and adrenal glandulars for metabolic balance, the demand for these products is only increasing. Gembra Health: Your Partner in Organ Supplement Manufacturing At Gembra Health, we’ve built our reputation on quality, science, and integrity. We source organs exclusively from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle in New Zealand — animals raised without hormones, antibiotics, or GMOs on regenerative farms that prioritize soil health and biodiversity. Our freeze-drying process preserves up to 99% of the nutrients in the raw organ, ensuring that every gram of powder is as nutrient-dense as nature intended. But our capabilities go far beyond sourcing. We offer a complete private label solution designed to make launching your product as seamless as possible. Step 1: Sourcing Premium Raw Materials Everything begins with the quality of the raw materials. Gembra Health sources bovine and ovine organs from trusted New Zealand farms known for their ethical and sustainable practices. The animals graze freely on lush pastures, producing organs rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and bioactive peptides. Once harvested, organs are handled with meticulous care to preserve their nutritional value. They are quickly frozen to prevent degradation and then transported to our cGMP-certified facility for processing. This ensures the highest possible quality from the very beginning. Step 2: Gentle Freeze-Drying for Maximum Nutrient Retention Our freeze-drying (lyophilization) process is what sets our glandular powders apart. Unlike conventional drying methods that use high heat and degrade sensitive nutrients, lyophilization removes moisture under low temperatures and vacuum conditions. This preserves the structure and activity of vitamins, enzymes, peptides, and cofactors — resulting in a shelf-stable powder with nearly all the nutrients of raw organ tissue. The result is a premium, additive-free product that forms the foundation for effective supplements. Our product descriptions detail the wide variety of glandulars we produce, from liver, kidney, and heart powders to thymus, thyroid, spleen, pancreas, brain, and more. Step 3: Custom Formulation Support Every brand is unique — and your supplements should be too. Our team works closely with you to design custom formulas tailored to your brand’s goals, target audience, and market positioning. Whether you’re creating a thyroid support supplement, a multi-organ blend for overall vitality, or a skin and joint formula combining glandulars with collagen peptides, we can help you bring your vision to life. We also offer expert advice on dosage, blending, encapsulation, and ingredient synergy. For example, pairing liver with kidney and spleen can create a comprehensive iron and immune-support formula, while combining thymus with adrenal powders can support immune resilience and stress response. Step 4: cGMP Manufacturing and Quality Testing All our products are manufactured in a cGMP-certified facility under strict quality control standards. Each batch undergoes rigorous third-party testing to verify identity, potency, and purity. We screen for heavy metals, microbial contaminants, pesticides, and other potential impurities to ensure every ingredient meets or exceeds industry standards. This commitment to quality gives you and your customers confidence in the safety, consistency, and efficacy of your products. It also simplifies regulatory compliance, helping your brand meet labeling and documentation requirements in different markets. Step 5: Private Label Packaging and Branding Once your formula is finalized, we package it under your brand’s label. Whether you want capsules, bulk powders, or custom blends, we can tailor packaging options to your specifications. Our design team can also assist with label creation, compliance review, and messaging to help your products stand out on shelves and online. This turnkey solution means you can go from concept to market-ready product without needing to manage multiple vendors or production steps. It’s an end-to-end service that lets you focus on building your brand while we handle the science and manufacturing behind the scenes. Why Choose Gembra Health for Private Label Manufacturing? There are many supplement manufacturers in the market, but few specialize in the niche of glandular nutrition — and fewer still combine deep expertise with uncompromising quality. Here’s what sets Gembra Health apart: Regeneratively raised, grass-fed New Zealand sourcing: Premium organ material from hormone-free, GMO-free cattle. Advanced freeze-drying process: Nutrient preservation up to 99% for maximum bioavailability. Additive-free, non-defatted powders: 100% pure organ material with no fillers or flow agents. Extensive organ catalog: Liver, kidney, heart, thyroid, thymus, spleen, pancreas, brain, bone, marrow, and more. Custom formulation and blending: Create unique formulas that reflect your brand’s mission and audience. Comprehensive quality assurance: cGMP manufacturing and third-party testing for purity and potency. Flexible order volumes: Suitable for startups launching their first product and established brands scaling production. Our experience working with supplement companies of all sizes means we understand the challenges brands face — from sourcing quality ingredients to navigating regulatory requirements. We act as a partner, not just a supplier, helping you overcome those challenges and build a successful product line. The Growing Demand for Organ-Based Supplements The popularity of organ-based nutrition is part of a larger shift toward whole-food, ancestral diets and functional nutrition. Consumers are increasingly seeking supplements that provide nutrients in their natural forms, not just isolated synthetic vitamins. They want products that align with regenerative agriculture, ethical sourcing, and sustainability values. Organ powders check all these boxes. They’re rich in vitamins like A, B12, and folate; minerals like iron, zinc, and selenium; and unique peptides and cofactors not found in plant-based foods. They support energy, immunity, thyroid function, detoxification, skin health, joint support, and more — all in a form the body recognizes and uses efficiently. For supplement brands, this means enormous potential for growth. Products made with organ powders can command premium prices, attract loyal customers, and stand out in a crowded marketplace. And with Gembra Health’s private label services, launching those products has never been easier. Bringing Your Organ Supplement Brand to Life Building a successful supplement brand is about more than just selling products — it’s about delivering real results, earning trust, and standing for quality. Water is removed from frozen material under vacuum by sublimation, so ice turns straight to vapor without passing through a liquid phase. That is the difference from spray-drying or heat-drying, which drive water off as a liquid at higher temperatures. Drying from the frozen state keeps the tissue cold for most of the process and avoids a long warm, wet stage. How does freeze-drying work, step by step? In three stages: the tissue is frozen, most of the water is sublimed off under vacuum, and the last bound water is driven off at the end. The output is a dry, porous cake that is then milled to spec. Freezing Organ tissue goes into the dryer frozen solid. The water has to be fully frozen so that it leaves as ice rather than melting. Primary drying (sublimation) The chamber is pulled down to a deep vacuum and the shelves supply controlled heat, because sublimation needs energy to happen. Ice turns to vapor and is collected on a cold condenser. This is the longest stage, and it removes most of the water. Secondary drying (desorption) Water bound into the tissue does not leave as ice. It is driven off at the end of the cycle, still under vacuum, at a somewhat higher shelf temperature. What comes out is a dry cake with low residual moisture, ready for milling. Is freeze-drying heat-free? No. The dryer itself adds controlled heat during sublimation and secondary drying. The product stays cold while ice is subliming, but heat is part of the cycle. There is also a separate kill step before drying. Flatiron heat treats our flagship raw material in commercial ovens at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, and higher where the program calls for it. That is pathogen control. The material comes out looking almost rare: it is heat treated, not cooked, and then it goes on to freeze-drying and milling. The more common kill step in this category is high-pressure pasteurization (HPP), usually paired with a chemical bath or irradiation, and usually applied to FDA pet-downgraded raw material. Flatiron uses none of the three on the flagship tier. Material we distribute from New Zealand, Australia and South America is HPP-processed to those regions’ standards, and we tell you plainly which origin a lot is. Quality and sourcing sets out the two approaches side by side. If a finished label is going to say anything about processing or temperature, get the actual sequence from your supplier in writing. Claims on a finished product are the brand owner’s to make and substantiate. Why does residual moisture matter? Low residual moisture is what makes a freeze-dried powder shelf-stable and free-flowing. Organ powder is hygroscopic: if it is not dried down properly, or not barriered once it is, it picks up water and cakes. That is why water activity is on the certificate of analysis for every order, so the number is measured rather than assumed. Once a bag is open, reseal it well, because the powder will start drawing moisture from the room. What is the difference between freeze-dried and desiccated? Freeze-dried is the premium tier and desiccated is the value tier. Technically every powder is desiccated, since the word just means dried. As a category, though, it means dried by a method other than freeze-drying. We offer both. Freeze-dried material is made by Flatiron. Desiccated material is sourced rather than made in house, and the price difference per kilo is large enough to matter if you are buying on price. Say which form your formula calls for on the quote request, and we will tell you the origin and tier of each option. What else belongs in a glandular powder spec? Form is one line of the spec. These are the others to pin down before the first order: Fat. Non-defatted is the default; defatted is available on request. Non-defatted vs defatted organ powders covers when each makes sense. Mesh and density. Flatiron runs a hammer mill for most material and a cryogenic mill for very fine mesh or high-fat tissue such as heart, with a milling scientist deciding which. Our manufacturing explains how the spec is held batch to batch. Origin and tier. US grass-fed is the flagship tier. Grass-finished, organic and conventional tiers are also available, and so is material from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all stocked in the US. Additives. None. Single-ingredient powders, no fillers, no flow agents. Documentation. A certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order. What do formulators use freeze-dried glandulars in? Mostly in formulas built around a single organ or gland, and in multi-organ blends. A glandular powder is specified by organ because each tissue has its own composition. Liver naturally contains vitamin A, B12, folate, copper and heme iron. Heart naturally contains CoQ10. The glandular range we distribute includes thymus, thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, spleen and lymph, alongside the organ range led by liver, heart and kidney. The product catalog lists every organ and gland we carry. Request a quote Tell us the organ, the form (freeze-dried or desiccated), the fat spec and the mesh or density you formulate to. Like all bovine collagen, it is naturally high in the amino acids glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. This article is for companies sourcing grass-fed beef collagen as a bulk ingredient. It covers what the term means, what the material contains, where formulators use it, and what to check before you buy. Gembra Health is a wholesale distributor of bovine organ and glandular powders, with bovine collagen available alongside the range. Our product catalog lists every ingredient we supply. What is grass-fed beef collagen? It is bovine collagen from cattle raised on a pasture-based diet. “Grass-fed” describes how the animal was raised. It does not describe the collagen itself. Grass-fed, grass-finished, organic and conventional Grass-fed. Cattle raised on a pasture-based diet. Programs differ on whether the animal ate grass for its whole life. Grass-finished. Cattle kept on grass through to processing, rather than moved to grain for finishing. Organic. Cattle raised under a certified organic program, which sets its own feed and handling rules. Conventional. Cattle raised in standard systems, often finished on grain. Feed and veterinary protocols vary by supplier. Each of these is a sourcing specification, not a quality ranking. The right one depends on the claim your label makes and the price your product has to hit. What grass-fed sourcing changes for a buyer The label claim. Grass-fed or grass-finished is a claim your customers will read, so it has to be documented. The supply chain story. Pasture-based sourcing is a positioning many end consumers look for. The paperwork. Whatever the tier, it belongs on the spec sheet for the lot, not in an assumption. What does beef collagen contain, and where is it used? Beef collagen is a protein ingredient, and its amino acid profile is what sets it apart. Formulators commonly use it in skin, joint and gut formulations. Skin formulations Collagen is a structural protein found in skin, which is why it is common in formulas positioned around skin. Hydrolyzed collagen is also water-soluble, so it suits powders and drink mixes as well as capsules. Joint formulations Collagen is a major structural protein in cartilage, ligaments and tendons. That is why it appears in joint formulas, often alongside other connective-tissue ingredients. Our catalog also includes bovine trachea , which is a natural source of chondroitin. Gut formulations Collagen also appears in formulas built around digestion, usually for its glycine content. Claims on a finished product are the brand owner’s to make and substantiate. What a supplier can give you is the composition and the documents behind it. Why do companies source grass-fed beef collagen? Mostly for the sourcing story and the label claim it supports. What buyers weigh Animal welfare. Pasture-based systems give cattle space and a forage diet, and many end consumers now ask about it. Farming practice. Pasture-based sourcing aligns a product with the farming approach many ingredient-conscious consumers prefer. Documentation. A sourcing claim only holds if it is verifiable. Ask for the certification or program behind it. What should you look for when sourcing grass-fed beef collagen in bulk? Look for a supplier that states the origin and the tier of each lot, and sends the documents with the order rather than on request. Testing matters as much as sourcing. Ask for a certificate of analysis that covers microbial testing and heavy metals, and ask to see the lab results behind it. At Gembra Health, a certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order. Key factors to consider Sourcing documentation. Which origin, which tier, and the certification or program behind any grass-fed claim. Testing. A certificate of analysis for the specific lot, with the underlying lab results. Ingredient statement. Single ingredient, with no fillers or flow agents. Supply terms. Minimum order and lead time, in writing. Grass-fed, conventional and marine collagen Buyers generally weigh three sources, and each has a different sourcing story: Grass-fed bovine collagen. Tied to a pasture-based sourcing claim that should be documented per lot. Conventionally sourced bovine collagen. From cattle raised in standard systems. Sourcing practices, feed and veterinary protocols vary by supplier. Marine collagen. From fish skin and scales, with its own questions around heavy metals testing and fishery sourcing. Choosing grass-fed bovine collagen lets a customer ground its product story in a sourcing practice it can verify. For a wider comparison, see our guide to wholesale bovine collagen powder . This guide covers what to pin down before you buy in bulk. Gembra Health distributes bulk bovine collagen alongside our organ and glandular range. Most customers who buy it from us are consolidating ingredient purchasing with one supplier. Origin, tier and specification are confirmed per quote. Why does the source of bovine collagen matter? Because the origin and the tier are what you will put on a label and defend in a filing. Ask the supplier to state both, separately, for the specific lot. Origin is where the cattle were raised. Tier is how they were raised: grass-fed, grass-finished, organic or conventional. Neither is a ranking. They are specifications, and the right one depends on the claim your product makes and the price it has to hit. If your label will say grass-fed or grass-finished, ask for the documentation behind it. A sourcing claim should be verifiable, not assumed from the country the material came from. What should a collagen specification state? The spec sheet should describe the material you are actually buying, in terms your team can test against. Useful points to confirm: Form. Hydrolyzed collagen (collagen peptides) has been broken down into smaller peptides and disperses differently from gelatin. Confirm which you are buying. Physical properties. Particle size, bulk density and solubility decide how the powder runs through your blending, filling or stick-pack equipment. Moisture. Collagen powder picks up water. Water activity tells you whether it will cake in storage. Origin and tier. Stated for the lot, as above. Collagen is naturally high in the amino acids glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. That composition is why formulators use it in skin, joint and gut formulations. Claims on the finished product are the brand owner’s to make and substantiate. Fillers, flow agents and “pure” collagen A “pure” collagen powder should mean single ingredient: collagen and nothing added. Some suppliers add flow agents such as silicon dioxide or magnesium stearate so the powder runs more easily through equipment. Ask for the full ingredient statement, not a marketing line. Our catalog is single-ingredient bulk powder with no fillers, no flow agents and no additives. What testing and documents should come with a collagen order? Ask what ships with the order, and ask to see the lab reports, not just a summary. A certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet ship with every order we send. The certificate covers microbial testing, heavy metals screening and water activity. The lab results are the reports behind it. Allergen statements, country-of-origin records and anything else your file needs are available on request. Choosing a wholesale collagen supplier Look past price per kilo to what the supplier can show you. A few questions separate a supplier from a broker: Can they tell you which origin and tier a lot is, and document it? Do the certificate, lab results and spec sheet arrive with the order, or only when you chase them? What is the minimum order, and what is the lead time for stocked material versus a new run? Can they supply the rest of your ingredient list, so one qualification covers several materials? Our minimum order is 10 kg per ingredient. Material we hold in stock ships in 7 to 10 business days, and a custom run is 6 to 8 weeks. If you are weighing collagen against an organ or glandular ingredient, our comparison of collagen and glandular powders covers where each fits. Request a quote Call (970) 775-8677 --- # https://www.gembrahealth.com/blog/why-bovine-heart-deserves-more-attention-in-supplement-formulations Bovine heart powder in supplement formulations December 16, 2025 · Updated September 22, 2026 · Organ powders, Formulation Liver gets most of the attention in organ powders. Heart gets less, even though it is one of the three organs buyers ask us for most, alongside liver and kidney. It is also harder to make well. Heart is a high-fat muscle, and the fat changes how it mills, how it handles and which spec a formula should call for. This guide covers what a formulator or buyer needs to know before specifying bovine heart powder . What does bovine heart powder contain? Heart naturally contains coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). That is the composition fact most formulators come to it for. Heart is also a high-fat tissue, which shapes how it mills and whether a formula should specify it defatted. Exact values vary by lot, origin and tier, and by whether the powder is defatted. Every order ships with a certificate of analysis, lab results and a specification sheet. Nutritional analysis is something we assist with rather than supply, because the numbers depend on your finished formulation rather than on the raw lot. What do formulators use heart powder in? Mostly in single-organ heart products and in multi-organ blends. Heart is a common partner to bovine liver , bovine kidney and bovine spleen in organ complexes. Some customers build a formula around the CoQ10 heart naturally contains, positioning it as a whole-food ingredient rather than an isolated one. Others use it in pet nutrition, where the material starts as human-grade food under USDA inspection. It works in capsules, tablets and powder blends. Claims on the finished product are the brand owner’s to make and substantiate. What we can give you is a clear spec and the documentation behind it. Why is heart harder to mill than other organs? Because of the fat. Heart is high in fat and usually requires cryogenic milling to hit a fine mesh spec at all. Flatiron Food Factory, our sister manufacturer, runs both a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill, with a milling scientist on staff calling which one a lot needs. The hammer mill handles most of the catalog. The cryogenic mill handles very fine mesh, high-density specs and high-fat material like heart. Density and mesh are set to your formulation, then held batch to batch. Most freeze dryers have no milling capability and send material out to a separate mill, which is where lot-to-lot drift in a fatty powder tends to show up. If a heart powder you bought elsewhere runs inconsistently on your line, milling is the first place to look. When should a formula specify defatted heart? When flow, fat content or shelf life matters more than the fat-soluble fraction. Our heart powder is non-defatted by default, and defatted on request. The trade-off is real. CoQ10 is fat-soluble, so defatting can take some of it out with the fat. A formula built around heart’s natural composition usually wants non-defatted material. A formula where heart is one ingredient in a blend, or where a sticky powder is slowing a filling line, may be better served by a defatted spec. Our post on defatted vs non-defatted organ powders covers the choice in more detail. If you need a defatted spec, say so on the quote request. Freeze-dried or desiccated heart? Freeze-dried is the premium tier; desiccated is the value tier. Your quote says which one it covers, and we tell you plainly which one you are buying. Freeze-drying removes water from frozen material by sublimation, so the powder avoids the heat of spray-drying or conventional dehydration. Flatiron freeze-dries our flagship material. Desiccated heart is sourced rather than made in house. Technically all powder is dried, but as a category “desiccated” means not freeze-dried. Where does the heart powder come from? Our flagship tier is US grass-fed, human-grade raw material under USDA inspection. Flatiron heat treats it at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, then freeze-dries and mills it in Loveland, Colorado. There is no high-pressure pasteurization, chemical bath or irradiation. We also distribute material from New Zealand, Australia, South America and China, all stocked in the United States, and current origin availability for heart comes back with your quote. The New Zealand, Australian and South American material is HPP-processed to those regions’ standards. Material comes in grass-fed, grass-finished, organic and conventional tiers. Origin and tier are separate facts, and we state both for every lot. Our quality and sourcing page covers the options in full. What should you ask a heart powder supplier? Ask the questions that decide how the powder will run and what it contains. A supplier who answers them plainly is one you can qualify. Origin and tier. Which country, and which of grass-fed, grass-finished, organic or conventional? Grade. Is the raw material human-grade under USDA inspection, or FDA pet-downgraded material? Kill step. Heat treatment, or high-pressure pasteurization with a chemical bath or irradiation? Fat. Non-defatted or defatted, and can they supply both? Drying. Freeze-dried or desiccated? Milling. Hammer or cryogenic, done in house or sent out, and can they hold your mesh and density batch to batch? Documentation. What ships with every order, and what is on request? Additives. Any fillers or flow agents? Ours have none. Lead time. Is it in stock? In-stock material from us ships in 7 to 10 business days; a custom run is 6 to 8 weeks. Getting a quote for bovine heart powder Heart is worth specifying carefully: the fat that makes it distinctive is also what makes it demanding to mill and handle. Get the origin, tier, fat spec and mesh right at the start, and it runs like any other powder on your line. Request a quote with the volume, mesh or density spec and fat spec you need. Questions Email info@gembrahealth.com . --- # https://www.gembrahealth.com/our-manufacturing The ecosystem We distribute what our own factory makes. Gembra Health is the distributor. Flatiron Food Factory, our sister company, is the manufacturer, inspected under USDA or FDA as the program requires. Same ownership, same building, same standards. Request a quote Visit Flatiron Food Factory Why it matters to you Most bovine organ powder suppliers are importers and brokers. A broker can send you a certificate. What a broker cannot do is tell you what happened to the material before it reached them, because they were not there when it happened. We were. Freeze-drying, milling, and testing all happen at our sister company's inspected facility in Loveland, Colorado, ten minutes from the warehouse your order ships from. A question a broker would forward overseas, we answer in the same call. Traceability that does not stop at a broker's paperwork Specs held by the people who milled the powder Process questions answered by the people who ran the process Domestic lead times, not an import schedule The process From raw material to a spec you can formulate against. 01 Human-grade raw material, whichever agency inspects it Material arrives as human-grade food rather than as pet-downgraded material. Production runs under USDA or FDA inspection depending on the program, and that first decision determines everything downstream: it is made before any processing happens. 02 Heat treatment at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes Raw material is heat treated gently in commercial ovens. It comes out looking almost completely rare. There is no high-pressure step, no chemical bath, and no irradiation. 03 Freeze-drying Material is frozen and the water is removed by sublimation. Freeze-drying is the gentlest commercial drying method available, and it is why we use it instead of spray-drying or heat-drying. 04 Milling to your spec A hammer mill for most material, a cryogenic mill where a fine mesh or a high-fat material such as heart demands it, with a milling scientist on staff calling which. Density and mesh are set to your formulation, then held batch to batch. 05 Testing and documentation Every order ships with a certificate of analysis, lab results, and a specification sheet. The certificate covers microbial, heavy metals, and water activity. Country-of-origin records and allergen statements are available on request, along with whatever else your file needs. 06 Domestic warehousing and dispatch Finished material is warehoused in Loveland, Colorado for faster fulfilment to US and Canadian facilities, so lead time is not an ocean crossing. In-house milling Two mills, in-house, with a scientist running them. Most freeze dryers in the country have no milling capability at all. They send dried material out to a separate co-packer who mills it, and that hand-off is where lot-to-lot drift is born. Hammer milling The workhorse. Handles the bulk of the catalog and hits standard mesh specs consistently. Where most orders are milled. Cryogenic milling For very fine mesh, for high-density requirements, and for high-fat material. Heart muscle is usually high in fat and normally requires cryogenic milling to reach a fine mesh at all. Our sister company Flatiron Food Factory The manufacturing side of the operation: freeze-drying, desiccation, milling, tolling, and procurement, under USDA or FDA inspection. If you need manufacturing rather than distributed material, they are who you want. Three reasons to go to Flatiron directly A custom run. Material made to your formulation rather than ordered from the catalog. Tolling. You send the material, they freeze-dry it and send it back. Co-packing. Packaging runs and the co-packer relationships around them, which Flatiron either runs or manages. Everything else, buying finished powder by the kilo with a certificate of analysis and a quote, starts here. Orders begin at 10 kg per ingredient. Request a quote Visit Flatiron Food Factory Buyer questions Processing questions. Are organ powders actually nutritious, or does the freeze-drying destroy everything? Freeze-drying is the gentlest commercial drying method available. Material is frozen and the water is removed by sublimation, so the powder never goes through the heat of spray-drying or dehydration. The step that does the damage in this category is not drying, it is the kill step: high-pressure pasteurization paired with a chemical bath or irradiation. We use neither. Our raw material is heat treated at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, then freeze-dried and milled. Every order ships with a certificate of analysis, the lab results behind it, and the specification sheet, so the process is documented rather than asserted. Nutritional analysis is the one piece we assist with rather than supply, because the numbers depend on your finished formulation rather than on the raw lot. Can you hold a consistent mesh spec batch to batch? That’s the point of milling in-house. We run both a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill with a milling scientist on staff, so we can hit a specific density and mesh and hold it across lots. High-fat material like heart usually needs cryogenic milling to reach a fine mesh at all. Most freeze dryers in the country have no milling capability and send material out to a separate co-packer, which is where lot-to-lot drift comes from. What is the difference between your process and high-pressure pasteurization? HPP is the industry standard kill step, and it rarely runs alone. It is typically paired with a secondary step, usually a chemical bath or irradiation, and it is usually applied to FDA pet-downgraded raw material. We do not use it. Raw material is heat treated in commercial ovens at a minimum of 145°F for seven minutes, and higher where the program calls for it. The material comes out looking almost raw. It is not cooked: it is heat treated to the point that controls pathogens, and then it goes on to freeze-drying and milling. The powder we bought elsewhere seems fluffy or inconsistent. Why? Usually because it was high-pressure pasteurized. HPP leaves a powder with an odd, low bulk density that will not fill a capsule the same way twice, and that is what a fluffy or uneven lot on your line normally turns out to be. Inconsistent particle size does the same thing, and so does poor moisture handling, since organ powder is hygroscopic and cakes if it is not dried down or barriered properly. We do not use HPP. We mill in house to a density and mesh you specify and we can hold across lots, and water activity is on the certificate of analysis so the number is measured rather than assumed. Need a spec held across a production run? Tell us the mesh and density you formulate to. We’ll confirm feasibility, price, and lead time inside 12 to 24 hours. Put the target on your quote request and we’ll confirm feasibility, price, and lead time. Form is a choice as well as a spec. Freeze-dried is the premium tier, with the shelf life and nutrient retention that come with it. Desiccated is the value tier, and the difference per kilo is large enough to matter if you are buying on price. Desiccated material is sourced rather than made in house. See how the material is processed Buyer questions Questions about the catalog. Are the powders defatted? We can supply either. Non-defatted is the default, because defatting strips the fat-soluble vitamins that a whole-food organ formulation is usually there to deliver. We run both a hammer mill and a cryogenic mill, so we can mill fatty and defatted material alike; high-fat organs such as heart need the cryogenic mill to reach a fine mesh at all. If your formulation needs a defatted spec, say so on the quote request. Do you sell blends, or single ingredients only? Both. Single-organ powders are the core of the catalog, and we can accommodate custom blends and specific mesh specifications when a formulation requires it. Blend composition and target specs are confirmed at quote. Is there any filler or flow agent in the powder? No. Single-ingredient bulk powders, no fillers, no flow agents, no additives. We mill in house to a density and mesh you specify and we can hold across lots, and water activity is on the certificate of analysis so the number is measured rather than assumed. Do you supply pet nutrition brands? Yes, and the reason customers come to us for it is the raw material rather than the category. The material starts as human-grade food under USDA inspection and is heat treated instead of being blasted with chemicals or radiation. The food we eat is what goes to our pets. If you’re printing a clean-label claim on the bag, the paperwork behind it holds up. Send us the line items and the spec. My customers ask about vitamin A and iron. What do I tell them? That is one of the most common questions consumers raise about concentrated organ powder, and it is a formulation and labeling question rather than a raw-material defect. The honest answer is that nutrient density is exactly why the ingredient works and exactly why serving size matters. Price against your ingredient, volume, and spec Current origin availability, stated plainly Lead time from a warehouse in Loveland, Colorado A person's reply inside 12 to 24 hours Buyer questions Before you send it. Do you sell blends, or single ingredients only? Both. Single-organ powders are the core of the catalog, and we can accommodate custom blends and specific mesh specifications when a formulation requires it. Blend composition and target specs are confirmed at quote. --- # https://www.gembrahealth.com/terms Legal Terms of Use Last updated August 13, 2026 Gembra Health, 1510 E 11th St, Loveland, CO 80537 Contact: info@gembrahealth.com · (970) 775-8677 1. Any actual order is governed by the quotation, order acknowledgement, and commercial terms we agree with you in writing. Where the two conflict on anything to do with an order, the commercial terms control. 2. Nothing here is an offer Product descriptions, specifications, minimum order quantities, and lead times on this site are provided for information. They are not an offer to sell and they are not a binding quotation. Pricing and current origin availability come back with a quote against your specific requirement. 3. Specifications and availability change We describe our processing honestly and in detail because buyers qualify suppliers on it. Even so, specifications, certifications, sourcing origins, and availability change over time. Confirm anything you intend to rely on for a purchasing decision, a label claim, or a regulatory filing with us in writing before you rely on it. A certificate of analysis accompanies the lot you actually receive, and that document, not this website, describes your material. 4.
